The Machinebrain project concentrates on creating sound and beats using algorithmic and generative sequences mixed with traditional sequencing. AI is also used in various parts and its use will increase as new AI technologies become available.
Modular synthesis is also used with computer DAW technology. Generative video is also added to create a visual experience.

COLORSPLASH24
2024 - P1-COSP - Composed @ Blueroom
The Colorsplash24 project is a series of experimental live jam sessions recorded from 2021 - 2024.
The live jams were created on eurorack with MPC One and other synths and captured live into OBS. Along with the audio, generative video, pooled from folders of random stock footage such as visual effects, fractals and real life video clips were blended together as overlays with chromakey settings.
The video files were then composited and mastered in Adobe Premiere and then hosted on YouTube.

THE COLORIFIC VIDEO SERIES
This series of 12 music videos was:
- Composed on real electronic music gear without a computer.
- MPC One, Eurorack, 0-Coast, MB33, TD3, Volca Kick, Modal Skulpt.
- Loop jammed live with no pre-written sequences.
- Recorded live into OBS Studio with randomly sequenced video clips.
- Imported into Adobe Premiere for mastering with iZotope Ozone.
- Exported and uploaded here.

INTERLOPER SESSIONS #2
2021 - P1-INS2 - Recorded @ Blueroom
Live experimental improvised collaboration jam sessions with RmS, which are raw and unedited.
Predominatly dawless with various drum machines, synthesisers and modular synthesis.
This project embarks on the exploration of modular synthesis and follows the journey the development of a eurorack system and a revisit on other modern synthesisers.
Fused with the all computer world from the Electric abuse project with the added ability of digital computerised multitrack recording.
Although the multitrack ability has not been fully utilised, it became more of an experimental exploration of abstract synthesis techniques.

BROKEN ELECTRIC

The BROKEN ELECTRIC Project is group of DAW loops and sessions that have been arranged into full tracks with the occasional real synthesis added.
These DAW loops were composed between 2007 – 2014 and used for live sessions during the ELECTRIC ABUSE project.

SCHRODINGER'S DOG
2019 - P1-SHCR - Composed @ Ermin
Arranged tracks of experimental loop compositions, recorded during earlier modular synth experimentation.
The recordings have then being imported into a DAW and arranged with added percussion and samples.

This session was an exploration of generative modular synthesis. Parts of sessions may be captured, edited and rearranged into organised tracks at a later date.

INTERLOPER SESSIONS #1
2017 - P1-INS1 - Recorded @ Ermin
Live improvised collab sessions with RmS, which are raw and unedited.
Predominatly dawless with various drum machines, synthesisers and modular synthesis.
This project represents a time when computer systems running DAW software had come of age. It was also a time where the old retro analogue synthesisers had developed faults and unreliability.
Therefore very little hardware was used during this project, instead a vast array of multigenre samples were mixed and manipulated within the confines of the computer with VST digital effects and instruments.
This gave rise to a new found percussion style to previous projects but lacked some of the fluid given by real synthesisers.

EXCEPTION
2012 - P1-EXCP - Composed @ Lloyds
EXCEPTION is solo project composed and arranged between 2008 - 2012. It was created on a DAW with loops and samples and a few VSTs, no hardware instruments were used.
It has a breakbeat trip hop techno flavour with a bit of added distortion.

STRANGELET
2010 - P1-STRA - Composed @ Lloyds
Strangelet is a collaboration project of sessions with an electronic downtempo dub sound.
Tracks were composed on a DAW with some featuring lead and bass guitars.

INTERLOPER
2009 - P1-INTL - Composed @ Lloyds
INTERLOPER is a collab collection composed and arranged with RmS between 2007 and 2009. It was created on a DAW with loops and samples and a few VSTs, no hardware instruments were used.
It has a breakbeat trip hop techno flavour with a bit of added distortion.
This project was a hybrid of some retro analogue synthesis combined with the new available power of 32 bit computing.
Computer DAWs had not long had the ability to use high quality samples and also enough power to record a tracks worth of digital data and write a CD
As time progressed computer power increased and the project concentrated more on samples for percussion and sounds. Restrictions in studio space meant the large analogue retro synthesisers were omitted.

INFERNAL MACHINE
2006 - P1-INMA - Composed @ Boverton & Astor
Distorted experimental industrial hardcore with some bpms beyond the 200 mark.
Composed on a DAW with loops and samples, no hardware involved.

2001: A CYBERSPACE ODDITY
2001 - P1-CYBE - Composed @ Astor
This collection represents a crossover from retro analogue synthesis to a DAW with samples, when computers were finally powerful enough to playback wavs.
It is a mix of analogue synths and samples also representing a style change from trance to harder techno.
This project was the origin of Platform-1. The earliest was a based around a digital Korg Workstation providing percussion and sound. As time progressed retro analogue synthesisers were added to the studio.
This created a deeper experimental sound. Eventually an Atari computer was used for midi sequencing instead of the Korg.
However the computers of the time were only capable of very short 8 bit samples and no where near recording a full length CD quality track.

This collection showcases the best submissions from the QUANTA solo project, recorded onto DAT.
Crafted with retro analogue gear and sequenced using an Atari ST, these tracks embody an early psychedelic trance style infused with a subtle techno essence.

This collection showcases the finest tracks from the ALCHERINGGA collaboration project, recorded onto DAT.
Arranged on a Korg 01/WFD workstation, these tracks feature retro analog gear, including two Roland SH101s and a Korg PolySix.

INNOVATION

INNOVATION was recorded onto cassette during collaborative jam sessions from the ALCHERINGGA project, a period marked by minimal gear.
These tracks were arranged on a Korg 01/WFD workstation and complemented by retro analog gear, including two Roland SH101s and a Korg PolySix.

INFANCY
1994 - P1-INFA - Recorded @ Bertie Towers
These are the very first tracks from the ALCHERINGGA collaboration project, created with just a Korg 01W/FD workstation and a few other pieces of gear.
Originally recorded onto cassette, these tracks were digitally restored at a later date.

JAMBIENCE
1996 - P1-JAMB - Composed @ Staplins
Multi user session jams.
The first project was a collab of a group of electronic engineering students at Sheffield Polytechnic using Amigas, an Ensoniq ESQ1 synthesizer, an Alesis MMT and a Roland R5 drum machine.
The second project was a group using tribal drums and didgeridoos recorded at a studio in Runcorn with added keyboards, recorded onto ADAT multitrack.
However the computers of the time were only capable of very short 8 bit samples and no where near recording a full length CD quality track.

CROWHAWK - ELEMENTS
1993 - P1-CRHA - Recorded @ Pagan Media, Runcorn
CROWHAWK was a new age-style composition featuring didgeridoo and tribal drums, multitracked onto a 24-channel ADAT in a recording studio in Runcorn.
This recording was digitally restored from a cassette copy, as the original DAT recording was unavailable.

E/LIT/R8 - GURUS OF HIGH SIGNIFICANCE
1992 - P1-GURU - Recorded @ Steel City
This collaborative collection features early rave tracks composed by a group of Electronic Engineering students at Sheffield Hallam University. Using an Ensoniq ESQ1, an Alesis MMT-8, and a Roland R5, they crafted distinctive sounds, with samples added via a Commodore Amiga.
These recording sessions became the inspiration for future Platform-1 projects.
